Watching Planes Land at St. Barts Airport From the Hill
St. Barts is a small French island in the northern Caribbean, with a harbor at Gustavia that fills with yachts the way Monaco’s does.
Its only airport has a runway 2,119 feet long with a hill at one end and the beach at the other. On arrival, planes land over the hill at about twice the angle of a normal approach, low enough over the road that you feel the air move.
It’s the kind of place you’d visit for the beaches, yachts, and shopping, but leave talking about all the planes you saw land.
